Angelina Jolie hasn't shied from dishing about her
passionate, often casual liaisons with men and sometimes
women.
But the actress draws the line at being called a home
wrecker in the case of Jennifer Aniston vs. Brad Pitt.
"I've been painted as the Wicked Witch of the West
and a marriage wrecker. But all I've ever been to Brad
is a shoulder to cry on," Jolie says in the London
Sunday Express. "Half the world believes we had an
affair and I'm the one to blame for his split. But the
truth is I was there to try to help him through his
pain."
And the source of said pain?
"He longs to be a father, and he's been in emotional
turmoil for a long time because that hasn't happened for
him."
In related news, Star magazine has documented
the intersection of Pitt, Jolie and Jolie's superhumanly
absorbent shoulder.
Pictures show the "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" stars looking
awfully cozy as they walk arm in arm on the streets of
romantic Costiera Amalfi, Italy, during the film's
October shooting. The film opens June 10.
"There really seemed to be a chemistry between them,"
says a Star spy.
On Jan. 7, Pitt and Aniston issued a statement saying
they were separating after 4 1/2 years of marriage.
Tabloids have devoted dozens of pages to speculation
over why they split.
In the statement, the couple said: "For those who
follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain
that our separation is not the result of any speculation
reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the
result of much thoughtful consideration."
Aniston is perhaps the most recognizable star of
"Friends," the NBC ensemble show that concluded a
10-year run last year. She also has starred in films
such as "Bruce Almighty" and "The Good Girl."
Pitt is one of Hollywood's most bankable film stars.
His screen credits include "Fight Club" and "Meet Joe
Black."
